Aernode has joined OpenAQ as an air sensor partner, adding an optional public-data route for customers who choose to make selected monitoring data openly available. OpenAQ announced the partnership on 30 April 2026 and confirmed that a joint technical integration is in place.
Customers can continue using their normal Aernode data and reporting environment while authorised datasets from selected monitoring stations are also made available through OpenAQ’s global open-data platform.
What optional OpenAQ sharing means
Public sharing is opt-in, not the default. A project owner decides whether to participate and which monitoring stations are included. For participating stations, the sharing workflow concerns the selected environmental air-quality measurements and associated station metadata required for publication. It does not make the customer’s wider Aernode project data public.
Data continue to be managed within Aernode Cloud and can still be presented through Aernode Reporting Tools. OpenAQ therefore adds an external open-data channel rather than replacing project-specific dashboards, analytics or reporting.
Public availability does not change the measurement’s evidence role or confer regulatory or reference status. The data must still be interpreted according to the applicable measurement method, calibration and QA, siting, metadata and the role defined for the monitoring programme.

Why OpenAQ adds value to a monitoring project
OpenAQ harmonizes publicly available air-quality data into a common platform and makes those data accessible through the OpenAQ Explorer and the OpenAQ API. For participating Aernode projects, this can make selected datasets easier for researchers, municipalities, developers and other users to discover and reuse alongside other open air-quality sources.
This role is different from a project-specific public dashboard. A tailored dashboard can focus on a municipality, study or stakeholder programme and present the context selected for that audience. OpenAQ provides broader discoverability and standardized access beyond the original project. A project can use one or both channels according to its communication, research or transparency objectives.
How the sharing workflow fits Aernode
Optional OpenAQ sharing sits downstream of the existing Aernode data workflow. Aernode Cloud provides the central data-management environment and authenticated integration layer, while Aernode Reporting Tools support project dashboards, analysis, reports and public-facing portals. For projects that elect open sharing, OpenAQ becomes an additional destination for selected data.
Project teams considering the option should decide which stations are appropriate for public release and how open sharing supports the project’s wider communication, research or transparency objectives. Once participation is authorised, the existing technical integration can handle the transfer to OpenAQ without changing the monitoring station’s field operation.
